THE TREE OF LIFE

A partial interpretation from the artist's transient perspective

The red, orange and yellow background represents an exit from a worm hole between the spiritual reality and the earthly dimension. The woman is a spirit who has just exited the wormhole into this reality. She has been born a baby but her spiritual essence is infinite and so her image is that of an adult human. The painting is, like all of my paintings which include naked (not nude) women, representative of a dreamscape. The woman is the dreamer and the images around her are her dreamscape.

The dragon is not a God of course and not a god either. The dragon is a representation of universal spirituality. An image representing all that exist in the spiritual realm. He is the guardian of the exit from the wormhole. No one is allowed to enter the wormhole from the exit point.

The leaves are the earth. The tree is the tree of life. The red hand which represents human beings is the mark on the tree that distinguishes it as the tree of life. The woman has exited the wormhole and has passed the Tree of Life on her way into this reality. The skeletal hand is a dramatic reminder to the woman that her life in this dimension is finite. It will soon terminate. This dimension is not infinite and she is not immortal. She is finite and mortal and she must remember that her body will die and she will then enter into another wormhole that will return from whence she came.

The water represents the time on earth as the Age of Aquarius. Aquarius traditionally "rules" electricity, computers, flight, democracy, freedom, humanitarianism, idealists, modernization, astrology, nervous disorders, rebels and rebellion. Other keywords and ideas believed associated with Aquarius are nonconformity, philanthropy, veracity, perseverance, humanity and irresolution.

The rocks are the earth. As the woman moves toward us, she becomes more integrated with the earth.
